Hey all,
Happy Wednesday! Anyone having an exciting week?
My week so far has been work, work, work. Which I feel like I say a lot on here. Sorry if you guys are getting sick of me talking about it! It’s almost over- just the rest of March, and then all of April.
I thought today I’d tell you all about some of the stuff Mark and I have in our kitchen, and some stuff that most people have that we don’t.
First up, our food processor:
I just got this food processor for Christmas this year, so it’s the most recent addition to our kitchen. But I love it. I haven’t had a chance to make a lot of things I wanted the food processor for (like making my own peanut butter, or Larabars) but for the things I have made (like pesto and almond pate), I’m in love with it.
Microwave oven:
My microwave oven. Mark and I got rid of our microwave about 6 months ago. Mark and I heard a story, and one of my friend’s parents re-created it with the same results. The story we heard is this:
If you take two plants, and water one with water that you microwaved until it boiled (and then let it cool), and boil water on the stove (and let it cool) and water the other plant with it, within 2 weeks, the plant that received the microwaved water will die.
Mark and I heard the story and started talking about getting rid of our microwave. About 3 months later, the microwave we had, broke. As such, we just never replaced it and now, instead, heat up our food in this little guy. We also use it as our toaster. I still use microwaves at work for my lunch leftovers, but I like that we don’t have one at home.
Juicer:
I love the juicer Mark and I use. All the pieces come apart, so it makes it easier to clean. It’s still a pain in the butt to clean out, and as such, Mark and I have gone down to using our juicer about 3 times a week, rather than everyday. As I’ve said on the blog before, I actually got our juicer for free. One of my friends had a juicer and wasn’t using it, so we agreed if I made him dinner, he would give me my juicer. Best deal I’ve ever made.
Our coffee maker. Mark and I are both coffee addicts, and can’t start our morning without a cup of the stuff. I really like our coffee maker because you can either make a pot, or there are also coffee mugs and you can just make one cup. It works really well for Mark and I, as I get up around 6 am, and Mark typically gets up at 8:30.
Dishwasher:
Very sadly, Mark and I do not have a dishwasher. For the amount of cooking we do, it means we wash a LOT of dishes. When Mark and I first moved in with each other, Mark was still a student in massage therapy. Which meant he was at home a lot, and did 90-95% of the dishes. Sadly, now that we both work, the distribution is a bit more even.
Others:
I love red wine. It might be the most delicious thing ever created. If I had to chose between chocolate and red wine, red wine would win in an instant. As such, I love the decanter that “Santa” brought me this year. Mark and I buy each other stocking stuffers, therefore, I will forever refer to this gift as something I received from Santa.
I have excluded obvious things I have like a fridge, stove and sink. But I promise I have those too.
What are your guys’ favourite tools in the kitchen?

I love your decanter!! I agree… red wine is the best!! So sorry about the dishwasher situation… I insisted we had one when we moved in to our apartment. We had to pay a fee to have it installed and an extra $15.00 a month, but I think it is totally worth it!
Thanks Elizabeth! “Santa” picked it up at Costco, and I see them there all the time now.
I definitely agree that an extra $15/month is worth it to have a dishwasher. Mark and I have talked about buying one and installing one, and I think we both agree we wouldn’t live in another house without one.
Hi you have all superb cooking appliances but it seems like you guys are not maintaining it properly.
Nice captures! I have these all appliances in my home and red wine bottle is my favorite, it is very stylish in look. Enjoyed your post. Keep posting!
